At Edinburgh High Court today, a Confiscation Order for £26,000 was made against Richard Anderson.
Anderson, from the Lockerbie area, pleaded guilty on 23 November 2011 to a contravention of Section 4 (3) (b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (involved in the supply of cocaine) following an intelligence-led police search of a van near Ecclefechan, in Dumfries and Galloway.
He was sentenced to two years, four months imprisonment.
Lindsey Miller, Head of the Serious and Organised Crime Division (SOCD), said:
“Richard Anderson was heavily involved in dealing cocaine in the Dumfries and Galloway region - a crime that is classed as a “lifestyle offence” under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
“This means that law enforcement and forensic accountants can investigate his income over the six years preceding his arrest.
“The court found that £250,000 of his income during this time could not be accounted for legitimately.
“We are content that the £26,000 confiscation order today represents the full figure available to us at this time, but we reserve the right to apply to the court to vary the amount of the order should further funds become available.
“The money will be added to the £60 million already gathered from Proceeds of Crime and will be re-invested in the community by Scottish Ministers, through the CashBack for Communities programme.”
