56 year old man arrested for suspicious death in Newton Stewart

A 56 year old Newton Stewart man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to a suspicious death that occurred in the early hours of Saturday 15 October.

He is due to appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday 17 October on a charge of murder.

Police were alerted to a disturbance at a house on McGregor Drive in Minnigaff, Newton Stewart at around 00.15hrs. On their arrival they discovered a local 40 year old man with serious injuries. Despite receiving First Aid at the scene the man succumbed to his injuries and died.

Detective Inspector Mark Hollis said: “Everything points to this being an isolated incident. We believe the suspect and victim knew each other and we have now arrested a man in relation to the death.

“We would remind the public that these types of crimes are extremely rare in the region. A number of witnesses have already been traced and we are grateful for the response we have received from the public however we are keen for the strong support in the local community to continue.
