MacEwan’s Dumfries – Edinburgh bus crash near Biggar. 13 casualties

A 30 seater coach operated by MacEwans crashed at around 8.30pm yesterday, 14th November, having slid down an embankment.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue say, “At approximately 8:30 pm Strathclyde Fire & Rescue appliances were mobilised to a report of a bus crash on the A702 near Biggar. On arrival the crews were faced with an extremely difficult situation whereby a large 30 seat bus had left the roadway and rested approximately 20 feet down an embankment.
“The Incident Commander immediately assessed the dangerous situation and crews got to work in rescuing the persons still in the bus. Additional specialist rescue teams were also requested to assist in the rescue. Crews worked in extreme conditions to stabilise the bus, make the situation safe and assess the casualties. It was quickly established that there were a total of 13 casualties with varying injuries who were assisted from the bus and provided with medical assistance from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“The rapid and effective rescue operations carried out by the crews at the scene meant that all persons were removed from the bus within the hour of arrival and casualties were taken to hospital for further checkup”.
The cause of the accident isn’t yet unknown, but is being investigated by the Police.
