World Exclusive for Alive – Only on Folk N Stuff Tuesday 11th December

A singing legend from the early days of English folk-rock is providing Alive with a World exclusive when she re-launches her career, on air, on Tuesday 11th December as Hugh Taylor’s Live Studio Guest on FOLK n STUFF.

Shelagh McDonald was a young Scottish folk singer seeking fame and fortune in London at the birth of Electric Folk. She released two albums backed by several luminaries of the English folk-rock scene including Richard Thomson and Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention), Danny Thompson (Pentangle) and the Jazz Pianist Keith Tippet.

Following the release of her second album, Stargazer, the UK music press declared her to be “the new Sandy Denny”, the album was a great success and she was poised for stardom. Then she just disappeared and there was neither sight nor sound of her for over thirty years.

A few weeks ago she walked into a gig at A the Airts Sanquhar and compere Hugh Taylor invited her to do a short set of four numbers. After the gig he invited her to guest on his radio show.

She is now planning to resume her career, working on new material and talking of a third album. She will also be appearing live at A the Airts, Sanquhar in the spring of next year.
