Here’s a film from David Slater, of the turf cutting ceremony at Dock Park, Dumfries, yesterday (21st May 2013) to start the regeneration of the ageing Dock Park facility. The cutting was done by the leader of the council; Ivor Hyslop and attended by other councillors and civic dignitaries.
The regeneration project carries a budget of nearly £2m, primarily funded by a lottery grant and council match-funding, and will see the development of the park as a ‘flagship’ facility for the region, including the following features:
- Improvement of the northern entrance of the park and the car park.
- Refurbishment of historic features like the 19th century bandstand.
- Extension and improvements to the existing play areas to broaden the range of people catered for e.g. senior citizens.
- The creation of an events and gathering space which will also support a range of ball games
- Introduce a re-planting plan for the park
- Renovate the bowling pavilion to provide toilets, changing facilities etc
- Restoration of the maze and Kelly’s shelter
