Firefighter Rescue in Paisley

A man injured after falling from a bridge in Paisley on Monday morning has been rescued by fire-fighters and paramedics.
The emergency services responded following reports of a man lying on an embankment of the White Cart Water around 4:30am.
Crews from Paisley Community Fire Station were quickly on scene and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) incident commander called-in a specialist swift water rescue team to ensure the casualty could be safely removed from the riverbank.
In a co-ordinated rescue, the specially-trained fire-fighters and paramedics from the ambulance service’s Specialist Operations Response Team took to the water to reach the man, who appeared to be seriously injured.
Ambulance personnel judged his condition to be time-critical and fire-fighters immediately put to use their specialist rescue at height capability, securing the casualty to a stretcher and raising him to the bridge.
He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley after being passed to the care of a waiting ambulance crew.
An SFRS spokesperson said that this was a complex operation and it showed the importance of the close partnership between the emergency services.
“All the emergency services personnel involved in today’s operation will wish the best for the injured man and our thoughts are with him at this time,” an SFRS spokesperson said.
