Last Chance to Honour Dumfries and Galloway Health Heroes

my-hero-asidePeople from Dumfries and Galloway are being called upon to nominate local healthcare heroes for an accolade at the Scottish Health Awards 2013 before the deadline of 6th September 2013.

Hundreds of nominations have been received from across Scotland but many more worthy healthcare teams and top professionals are yet to be recognised for their dedication to providing outstanding patient care.

With the NHS in Scotland helping more than 150,000 Scots every day, the judges are looking for Scotland’s finest NHS workers and volunteers from across every area of healthcare including therapists, GPs, specialist carers or volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes of NHSScotland.

Last year, Dumfries-based Ashley Medicks, charity founder and Director of Skinship (UK), won the Unsung Hero Award at the Scottish Health Awards 2012, while Wendy Thomson, Occupational Therapy Development Facilitator at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary scooped the Quality Champion of the Year Award        .

There are 16 award categories, including the Nurses Award, the Volunteers Award, the Top Team Award and the renowned Doctors Award.

Jeff Ace, Chief Executive of NHS Dumfries and Galloway said: “The Scottish Health Awards highlight the hard work and dedication of our staff as they strive every day to ensure patients receive the best possible care.

“It would be wonderful if the efforts of our local teams could be showcased nationally to receive the wider recognition we believe they deserve.

“I would like to encourage local people to nominate teams or individuals who have gone that extra mile to deliver first class healthcare.

“We would like to see our staff recognised for the hard work they do every day in providing the best care possible to the people of Dumfries and Galloway.”

The awards will culminate in a prestigious award ceremony on the 7th November 2013 at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.
