Annandale and Eskdale Sports Personality 2013 – Sam Pattinson

Nominations are now open for the Annandale and Eskdale Annual Sports Awards Ceremony for the sporting year 2013.

2014 is a huge year in Scottish Sport with Glasgow hosting the  Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup coming to Gleneagles. Sport is in the spotlight and this is your chance to recognise those achieving or contributing to sporting success in the local area.

Nominations are being sought in eight categories for the awards which will be presented on 28th March 2014 including:

• Sports Personality of the Year sponsored by Anderson Joinery
• Sports Team of the Year sponsored by Kian’s of Annan
• Young Sports Personality of the Year sponsored by Grange Quarry Ltd
• Coach of the Year sponsored by Magnox Limited
• Service to Local Sport sponsored by The Cumberland Building Society
• Volunteer of the Year sponsored by The Star Hotel, Moffat
• School Sport Initiative/Performance of the Year (Large School) sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway Standard
• School Sport Initiative/Performance of the Year (Small School) sponsored by The Corner House Hotel, Annan

Calum Graham is the Council’s Lead Officer for Active Schools and Community Sport.  He said,  “We are looking for individuals, teams or schools who deserve recognition for their dedication and commitment to local sport or for outstanding success in their chosen sport during 2013.”

Councillor Ronald Ogilvie added,  “Our Council acknowledges the importance of all those who take part in local sport, whether as a competitor, a coach, an official or indeed as the volunteers behind the scenes who do all the work necessary to keep our local clubs functioning. No matter how major or minor, this is an ideal opportunity to endorse sporting achievements or recognise the work of those behind the scenes.”

Steve Frew, Commonwealth Games Gymnastics Gold Medallist in 2002, Athletes Commission for Scotland and Ambassador for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will give a presentation on the evening about the Commonwealth Games and what it means for Scotland.
