LOCAL COUNCILLOR RAISES CONCERNS ABOUT LOCERKBIE “ROUNDABOUT”

Annandale North Labour Councillor Graeme Tait has raised concerns over drivers in Lockerbie High Street using the war memorial in the town centre as a roundabout.
This comes after a number of local people reported incidents to Councillor Tait of “near misses” where others drivers using the memorial as roundabout nearly caused road accidents.
Councillor Tait has asked the council’s roads department to investigate the concerns. In the meantime, Councillor Tait is calling for drivers to be sensible when driving in the town.
Councillor Tait said:
“It is unacceptable that there are local drivers using the war memorial in Lockerbie town centre as their own makeshift roundabout. It is dangerous for themselves and others drivers. I was shocked by the stories that my constituents told me about near misses at the war memorial. Drivers need to be sensible, and local drivers should know its not a roundabout. However, in the long term I am seeking action from council roads department. One way forward would be to re-establish the road markings that were lost during the town centre makeover. That would appear to be the only way to get the message across that it isn’t a roundabout”
