COUNCIL ADOPTS LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS

Dumfries and Galloway Council adopted the Local Development Plan on 29 September 2014 following clearance to do so by Scottish ministers.
The Local Development Plan provides a positive planning framework aimed at promoting the right development in the right place. It is the key document that will be used to decide planning applications in the region. The plan provides new development sites with opportunities to build more than 7,000 new houses and provide a range of business and industry sites to meet the needs of economy. It also provides a positive framework to enable appropriate new development in towns, villages and rural areas, which should provide a boost to the construction industry and assist the region’s economic recovery.
There was a meeting between the planning service managers and planning agents on Tuesday 30 September in Dumfries at which the new planning framework was welcomed by planning agents who recognised that it provides new opportunities to develop the region.
Councillor Colin Smyth, Chairman of Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, said, “Building the local economy is the number one priority of our Council, so I welcome the fact the new local development plan has now been adopted. It will provide clear guidance to developers and help to deliver new developments that meet the needs of the region in the 21 century. It will also provide a boost to construction industry and assist our region’s economic recovery.”
