PRIMARY SCHOOL RUGBY FESTIVAL

The Nithsdale Primary Schools Touch Rugby Festival took place on Wednesday 8 October on the 3G pitch at the David Keswick Athletic Centre in Dumfries. Over 250 pupils from 14 schools competed in the event which was a partnership between Dumfries and Galloway Council and Dumfries Saints Rugby Club.
A weekly programme of taster sessions has been delivered in schools by coaches from Dumfries Saints Rugby Club to prepare the children for the festival and provide them with the opportunity to take part. This is seen as a natural progression from school sport and a development pathway for younger players.
Children from Nithsdale primary schools descended on the 3G pitch for a full morning of Touch Rugby. The festival was split into 3 events with a competition for Primary 6/7 boys, Primary 6/7 girls and a Primary 4-7 mixed event.
The winning teams, who received a Trophy were:
Girls: Troqueer / New Abbey and Kirkbean / Georgetown Primary (joint winners)
Boys: Laurieknowe Primary
Mixed: Duncow Primary
Any young player wishing to give rugby a ‘try’ is encouraged to contact Dumfries Saints. For more information please visit www.dumfriessaintsrugby.co.uk
