Queen of the South in thrilling win

A crowd of 1552 certainly got value for their money Friday night as they watched this thrilling 7 goal thriller. A game that was beamed live on TV was a good advert for the Scottish Championship. Queens opened the scoring after 7 min when Raith keeper Laidlaw failed to catch the ball and Baird poked the ball over the line. The rest of the first half was very even with chances to both teams, without anyone managing to find the net. Queens got an early goal in the second half when Holt crossed the ball for Carmichael who passed the ball for Reilly to slot home. Russell then was fouled in the box but the ref failed to point to the spot. Raith made a double substitution on 58 minutes and it proved successful as they scored two goals in the 4 min that followed. First Stewart found the net with his first touch then Nade scored on a rebound after a fine Clark save. Things back to being level again you would fancy Raith to kick on and go on to win. Things did get worse for Queens as Holt got sent off for a silly two footed challenge, although he barely touched the player, having two feet off the ground is dangerous. However Queens bounced back within two minutes and Lyle scored with a looping header to restore the lead. The lead only lasted a few minutes before Raith equalised again through Stewart’s second goal. The game was still going end to end and with both teams going for a win. With the game going into extra time Russell saved on the line at one end before nearly scoring at the other. In the last minute Russell hit a hopeful shot from just outside the box and a small deflection was enough to take it away from the keeper and into the bottom corner. With that Queens won this game 4-3 and moved to third place overtaking Raith on goal difference. Falkirk at home next Saturday and we hope for another good Queens win.
