Our region’s first ever Business Week has been hailed as a success. Last week, 20 separate business events were held across the region which were attended by over 500 local businesses! Events ranged from retail workshops to women into business workshops.
Councillor Colin Smyth, Chair of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee said ‘Our first ever Business Week has been very successful and has allowed our Council to support business growth across Dumfries and Galloway. We have led on the development and delivery of Business Week and have worked with key partners to highlight the help which is available to businesses, allowing them to prosper and grow.
Building the local regional economy is the number one priority of our Council and I am delighted that over 500 businesses attended the events. These workshops and events are just a small part of the support we provide businesses across the region. We have asked for their feedback which will be used to develop our support network. I am already looking forward to next year’s events.
Professor David Thomson Owner of Annandale Distillery stated ‘I know first-hand of the support that is available from the Councils business support, particularly through Business Gateway, Economic Development and the CX Project. The support my business has received has been invaluable to enable me to re-develop a derelict distillery and bring it back to life to open not just as a working whisky distillery, but a visitor destination and ultimately a whisky academy. I would urge any existing business or anyone with the gem of a business idea to contact the council for support and advice.
Sam Hill from cycle specialists The Breakpad Ltd, located at Palnure near Newton Stewart said’ I have attended a number of the workshops and events across the week and would advise people to contact the Council’s Business Gateway service as the free workshops and events they put on are crucial in developing your Business. The social – media workshops are of particular relevance to ensure your business, whatever that business may be, keeps up to date with this fast changing marketing tool.
