Annan and Queens clash at Galabank

The two sides will battle it out at Galabank tomorrow afternoon in the Scottish League Cup. It’s the first competitive match between the two sides at Galabank and Queens manager James Fowler is relishing the prospect as is his counterpart at Annan, Jim Chapman.

Although Queens will be the bookies favourites to progress, Annan manager Jim Chapman is delighted with his side’s performance with a shock win over Airdrie and on Saturday and a 5-2 victory against a Rangers U20 side on Tuesday.

Chapman said: “We’re obviously very pleased with our start to the season and we go into the cup tie against Queens full of confidence.

‘The intensity and fitness levels of the players on Saturday was tremendous and it has led to us having another home tie against St Mirren.”

He added: “The Queens game is a local derby match and it should be a great match for the fans as well as the players and of course a big test for us.

“Although we go in with confidence we know exactly what we’re up against

Queens manager James Fowler warned: “They obviously had a good result last week and we’ve had a lot of changes but from our point of view we’re quite happy where we are although we’re still looking to add one or two but whether it will be before the weekend, I don’t know.

“Annan will be at home and they’ve had couple of results and performances but we’ve nothing to lose either. The pressure will be on us and we’ll just have to deal with it in a mature way.

“We had a good result on Saturday but although we want to progress in the cups, we’ll be judged on how the season has gone in the league. We want to win on Saturday try and get a good cup run.”

Fowler has had the chance to make up his own formation with the departure of ten players and added: “I lost a few that I didn’t want to lose and its how you bring in new ones and get to the level we were at last year.

“That’s the challenge and time will tell how we deal with it.”
