Dumfries foodbank faces funding shortfall

A foodbank in Dumfries has said it needs to raise £15,000 by January in order to continue to keep going.
Mark Frankland, of the First Base Agency, said there had been a five-fold increase in the number of emergency food parcels going out.
The agency started up as a support agency for drugs users but the food parcels have now become its major role.
Mr Frankland said numbers had risen from 1,000 five years ago to 5,000 now, causing “severe financial challenges”.
He has come up with an unusual method of trying to raise the funds required to meet demand.
Mr Frankland is also a writer who, in 15 years, has penned 23 novels.
He has now completed a 24th – e-book The Great Food Bank Siege – and said the proceeds from it will go towards solving the foodbank’s financial problems.
