COURT

A 49-year-old woman who drove with more than four times the permitted drink limit has been banned from the road for three years.

Verity Humfryes, of William Street, Dalbeattie, who had a previous conviction, was also made the subject of a community payback order with conditions she be under supervision for 12 months and carry out 150 hours unpaid work.

She admitted committing the offence on the Castle Douglas to Dalbeattie road last month and also admitted driving without the appropriate licence and without insurance.

The court was told she was stopped after police received a call about a possible drink-driver and when they caught up with her she was seen swerving about on the road and found to be unsteady on her feet.

Solicitor Gavin Orr said Humfryes had been drinking with her husband and ran out of alcohol and she was ordered to go and get some more and felt she had to go.

Other than road traffic offences she had not previously been in trouble.
