MyFresh is considering the closure of its plant at Empire Way, Gretna.

The company which has two other plants in England, has entered into a 30-day employee consultation period to consider the factory’s future.

The Gretna plant processes most of the potatoes, carrots and swedes for the company.

Nick Gale, the managing director of MyFresh said that declining sales meant they were looking to close the factory.

He added: “We have entered a period of employee consultation with a view to closing our MyFresh Gretna operation.

The decision to propose the process of closing the site has not been taken lightly and is not a reflection of the performance on our colleagues in Gretna.

“The continuing decline in sales and the accelerated reduction in chilled food manufacturing in Southern Scotland and in Northern England means the operation here has become economically unviable.

“The potential closure would result in the loss of up to 60 jobs and we are working closely with our colleagues at Gretna as we appreciate the difficult situation this causes them.”
