£1.8m support to boost Stranraer’s ‘vitality and competitiveness’

Plans to help regenerate Stranraer have secured £1.8m in funding but two other Dumfries and Galloway towns have missed out.
The money will be used to improve links from Castle Square to the marina and enhance links to the West Pier.
Dumfries and Galloway Council said it was pleased to secure the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund support.
However, similar bids for projects in Dumfries and Kirkcudbright were not successful.
Councillor Colin Smyth said: “Building the local economy is the number one priority for this council and a key part of this is the regeneration of Stranraer.
“By investing in the town to make it attractive, we hope we can boost the number of people who visit Stranraer, which is good for local shops.
“This investment in the regeneration of the town will help improve the vitality and competitiveness of Stranraer, which has struggled in recent years to attract commercial inward investment and is yet more evidence of our commitment to the town.”
