New Moffat MRT new leader has a busy week

MOFFAT Mountain Rescue Team was called out to help search for a Dumfries woman who was found by a member of the public. It was also the last search led by team leader Colin Golphin. (Pictured are Colin Golphin (right) who handed over the role of team leader to Shaun Duignan).
At 3.30am on Tuesday April 26 Police Scotland asked for the assistance of Moffat Mountain Rescue Team to carry out a search in the Dumfries area for a woman reported missing overnight.
The team carried out a number of searches into the morning and fortunately the lady was found by a member of the public safe and well. This was the last search led by the current team leader Colin Golphin before handing over to the new team leader at the AGM.
Then tonight, Wednesday April 27 the team held it’s annual AGM at the base in Moffat when a number of changes took place in the committee managing the team.
Colin Golphin has led the team through a successful period of change over the last five years which has included leading the team through many callouts to help people in distress across Dumfries and Galloway and changing the team’s charitable status to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
At the AGM the team members voted Shaun Duignan to lead the team over the next five years. Shaun has been a team member for over ten years and has previously held the posts of training officer and deputy team leader.
The team also voted in Colin Golphin to the post of equipment officer and James Coles to the post of Deputy Team Leader.
Every year Moffat Mountain Rescue Team holds its annual charity walk in the hills around the team’s area of operation. There are 4 walks of varying difficulty to meet the needs of all comers. This years challenge is being held in the Durisdeer Hills on the 12 June.
