BIG PLANS FOR SHAMBELLIE HOUSE

A GROUP of local volunteers are fighting to save the historic Shambellie House from closure.
The Shambellie House Trust was established following a decision by the National Museum of Scotland to close the building, which housed the National Museum of Costume.
There are ambitious plans for the house which was a major tourist attraction until it was axed two years ago.
Ms Harper visited the tourist attraction in New Abbey – which has lain vacant since 2014 – to offer support to the Trust and hear about the exciting business plan for Shambellie.
List MSP Emma Harper has visited the house and says: “It was great to catch up with the Shambellie House Trust and hear about their plans in more detail.
“One of the Trust’s suggestions is that Shambellie could be used as a National Photography Centre, which I think would be great. The scenic surroundings and wildlife would be sure to draw photographers from across the world.
“The plans will be a huge boost for tourism and the local economy. Although the provision of some accommodation is planned on site at Shambellie, visitors will undoubtedly also want to come to New Abbey for accommodation, meals, and as tourists to the village.
“I look forward to seeing the final business plan from the Trust, and to helping them realise their vision for Shambellie.”
