SOUTH of Scotland MSP Emma Harper has welcomed the formal accreditation of the Cross-Party Group on Lung Health in the Scottish Parliament. Emma,
Emma who convenes the group, has been keen to bring her nursing experience to bear on this area of policy.
She said: “I’m delighted we have passed the final hurdle and now have a fully accredited Cross-Party Group on Lung Health. This is a subject which is important to me from my nursing career and it also has local significance since southwest Scotland has a higher mortality rate from lung diseases than the Scottish average.
“So I think there is plenty of work for us to do in this important issue. The group will be able to look at specific issues, make recommendations and help to promote the Respiratory Quality Improvement Plan, which is currently been developed by members of the National Respiratory Advisory Group.
“I’m particularly grateful to the growing panel of experts who have agreed to participate in the Group, including representatives from Health Boards, charities and the third sector as well as patients’ groups. I know their expertise and experience will be invaluable in our work.”
