Sailing up the River Nith, as in days gone by (video)

Written by on December 1, 2010

This video from David Slater shows how large sailing boats can still navigate the River Nith. Mr. Roy Kerr and David Sleggs of the Port of Dumfries Development Group helped make the film.

Dumfries was a very busy river in times gone by. In fact it was so busy with shipping it was named the Scottish Liverpool. Dumfries was built on farming and the river. Over the years Dumfries has lost its ties with the river Nith, but this small group of people have the vision and are doing their very best to again bring our River Nith back to life. In time a tall ship could be resident here.
