Big name required, so they chose Brendan Rodgers

Written by on June 1, 2012

So Brendan Rodgers has been named  the new Liverpool manager, Really….

For a club with so much history and one that still thinks of itself as a BIG club is this the best they could do.

Don’t get me wrong I was never a fan of Kenny, but at least he was a man that seemed to carry some authority. I don’t see Rodgers carrying any.

Maybe it’s because  he’s still relatively young or maybe,  I just feel that you should work your way into a job like the one at Anfield.

I don’t think working under Jose, being in charge at Reading and Watford and guiding Swansea to 11th in there first  Premier League campaign justifies being appointed to one of the most pressure filled jobs in world football.

I hope Liverpool’s owners give him time, but more importantly I hope the fans give him time and allow him to make the team his own.

That may mean, no that WILL mean a couple of seasons of mid table finishes with no right to european football, let’s be honest if come Christmas Liverpool are outside the top 6 will the Anfield faithful be calling for Rodgers head??

I mean if  they didn’t back the England manager, why would they back a still rookie Premiership manager?

Good Luck Brendan, you’ll need it…

Carlisle United, Grimsby Town, Workington, Huddersfield, Liverpool. Who? I hear you ask. Only Bill Shankly, I reply. Why not let history be Rodgers judge, rather than damning him out of hand? Alan Pardew was nothing before he got to Newcastle. He didn’t do too badly either. See what I mean?
