A75 improvements on Hardgrove – Kinmount section to go ahead

Scottish Government Finance Secretary John Swinney confirmed to Parliament a range of ‘shovel ready’ schemes which are set to benefit from accelerated capital expenditure. These include the Hardgrove to Kinmount scheme on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway, which will get £20m in funding over the next 2 years to allow work to start.
Councillor Brian Collins, Depute Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, said, “I very much welcome today’s announcement. This is great news in terms of road safety, economic regeneration, and the ongoing improvement of the A75 Euro Route. This project will be warmly welcomed by our local communities. As a considerable amount of preparatory work has already been done, work can start almost immediately.”
This section of the A75 has become notorious for serious accidents, following several fatalities in recent years. Alive, along with other local media have been pushing for this project to go ahead. This decision seems to be the green light many local people have been waiting for.
