New warning about bogus workmen

Police are asking householders to be alert in relation to a bogus workman who has been calling at houses in the Dumfries area on Tuesday 3 July 2012. An elderly man was robbed of his wallet in Dalswinton Avenue this morning, and a lady in Dunlop Road had a dispute with the man over the cost of a hedge cutting job. In a third incident around 1600 hours today a lady in Dercongal Road in Holywood had her house entered by a man who called about repairing a fence. The only description available at this time is that the man is believed to be in his 30s, tall, has a long white face and was wearing dark clothing.
Police ask householders to be careful about whom they let into their homes and in particular to those who cold call asking to carry out work. If in doubt then police can be contacted on 0845 600 5701
