The Moonlight Walk was held on Saturday night with 120 walkers taking part in the 25 mile challenge from all over the South West Scotland and the North of England.
The event, organised by Dumfries & Galloway Council attracted men and women between the ages of 12 and 70 years old who raised in the region of £8,000 and £10,000 in sponsorship for the Kennedy Suite Chemotherapy Unit at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary(DGRI) and Westsound’s Cash For Kids. This is the fifth Moonlight Walk to be organised in the region and takes the total raised for good causes at DGRI to over £65,000 over the years.
The walkers started and finished at the Queen’s Hotel and had the choice to walk 5,10, 15, 20 or the full 25 miles around the Lockerbie countryside. On the night, 15 walkers completed the 5 miles, 49 completed 10 miles, 27 walked 15 miles, 9 walked 20 miles and 20 completed the full distance, walking right through the night from 11pm and all were home for 8am.
Karen Robertson, Physical Activity Development Officer commented, ‘I would like to congratulate all of the walkers for taking part and raising such a fantastic amount for such worthwhile causes. I must thank all the willing helpers, route marshalls, volunteers and local companies, Home Bargains, Tesco, the Queens Hotel, Solway Agriculture and Mountain Warehouse for making the event such a success.
