Launch of Dumfries and Galloway Joint Carers’ Strategy

Carers and their families and friends are invited to the launch of Dumfries and Galloway’s new Joint Carers’ Strategy.
During the week beginning 27 August, the launch event will be touring the region to make sure everyone gets a chance to find out about the new strategy. The launch will be at 8 different venues through the week and will be accompanied by the ‘Pamper Bus’. The Pamper Bus will offer a variety of therapies for carers, recognising the stress of their role and offering them some much needed relaxation.
Chief Executive NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Jeff Ace, said, “Anyone of us at any time in our lives can become a Carer. This is not necessarily something that we choose or even plan for. The implementation of a local Carers Strategy will raise awareness of the Caring role and encourage us all to consider the potential impact caring could have on all our lives. This joint strategy builds on the work of both the NHS Carer Information Strategy and previous local authority strategies which recognised the role of Carers.”
Chief Executive Dumfries and Galloway Council, Gavin Stevenson said, “The success of implementing this strategy firmly lies in a co-ordinated partnership approach which brings together professionals, Carers and the third and independent sector. We are pleased to present a local response to the National Carers Strategy which was launched in 2010.”
Claudine Brindle, manager of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Dumfries and Galloway, said, “The Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre is delighted to have participated in the development of the Carers Strategy and fully support the launch throughout the region. This is a welcome step forward on the road to improving services and support to carers across Dumfries and Galloway.”
The strategy recognises the role of Carers and the contribution that they make. It is a firm commitment across the health service and Council, to improve the support and services available to Carers. This in turn contributes to the foundations for a whole system approach to the future delivery of care and support to the people of Dumfries and Galloway.
