Queen of the South V Arbroath

The first good news on this brilliant day for Queens came before kick off with the news that PAUL BURNS have signed for the club for the second time.
Queens started the first half the best team and camped themselves in the Arbroath half early on.
Carmicahel put a cross in which came to nothing, and Gibson’s low cross only needed a touch but went inches wide. Reilly then had a mishit shot that came back of the post. It was left to WILLIE GIBSON to open the scoring. After a corner from the right the ball came back out to Gibson who shot from 20-25 yards out and it sneaked in at the post. The keeper should have done better but it stood 1-0 to Queens. Queens continued to dominate and Higgins through ball found Reilly in the box but he could not lift the ball over the advancing keeper. Queens went 2-0 up on 38 min when Arbroath defender hit a wild pass at the back, Clark pounced and beat a defender and keeper for the ball and tapped it into the empty net, Towards the end of the half Arbroath got their first shot in form of a penalty after Mckenna pulled in the box. Penalty hit the bar though and boy were they to regret that miss after the second half.

If we thought Queens had played well in the first half, the second half was nothing short of excellent. Carmichael hit a shot over the bar before GAVIN REILLY made it 3-0. His header after a corner from the left went in. Clark tried to tap it in for his goal but was too late. Holt then made a challenge on Paul Currie, was unlucky to catch his ankle with studs and that was game over for Currie. Hopefully the injury isn’t too bad. Reilly done well to beat a defender to the ball, put in a low cross for Clark to put in but he hit it wide. Carmichael had a chance when the ball landed at his feet from a Gibson cross, put in trying to find the top corner he hit shot over bar. Things got even better for Queens when Carmichael put in a low cross for GAVIN REILLY to sweep the ball into the back of the net and made it 4-0.
Clark then had a golden opportunity to score but unselfishly tried to find Reilly for his hat trick but couldn’t find him., Clark got the ball back though and his shot was pushed onto the cross bar by the keeper. Carmicahel found himself in acres of space but tried a volley which went wildly over the bar. Queens made 3 subs in short time with Black, Orsi and Smith coming on for Gibson, Mckenna and Clark. Yet another Carmichael cross found KEVIN SMITH at the back post for him to tap in 5-0. In amongst all the Queens chances Arbroath had some attempts, closest was Holmes with a point blank header he managed to put wide when it was easier to score. The last goal came with the last kick of the ball as GAVIN REILLY got his hat trick. 6-0 to Queens and a comprehensive victory for Queen of the South. Queens just don’t look like conceding goals at the moment and the way we play it is difficult to see who will beat us in this league.
