Queens win D&G derby

Top-of-the-table Queen of the South continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win over bottom club Stranraer at Stair Park.

It was drama from the start as the Stair Park men squandered a penalty in 6 mins when Chris Higgins clobbered Sean Winter in the penalty box but Stranraer’s Aitken smashed the resultant kick wide of the right-hand post.

On the 28 min mark Doonhamers top-scorer Gavin Reilly found space to convert William Gibson’s cross and notch his seventh league strike of the season.

The equally  prolific Nicky Clark fired into the roof of the net in the final minute to confirm all three points and a sixth successive win for Allan Johnston’s side.

Queen of South: Robinson, Mitchell, Durnan, Higgins, Holt, Carmichael, Burns (McGuffie 69), Derek Young, Gibson, Reilly (McKenna 70), Clark. Subs Not Used: Atkinson, Lyle, Slattery.
