A Stitch in Time…. benefits Alzheimer’s project

A quilting group from Dumfries has recently passed on the fruits of its labours to Ann Hill from the Alzheimer Scotland Hampden Park Quilt Project.
The quilts were made by a group of learners and volunteers within the North West Resource Centre, Dumfries as part of a project supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council and Nithsdale Health and Wellbeing Partnership. The group was established earlier this year to involve older learners in their community.
In May 2013 these quilts will form part of the Alzheimer Scotland Hampden Park Quilt Project. This worldwide initiative was conceived by Ann; some 5,000 quilts of 40” square (or close) are needed to cover Scotland’s international football pitch at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Aerial photographs will be taken and sold. The quilts will be auctioned off and those left will be adopted by care homes throughout Scotland. The aim of the project is to raise awareness of dementia and how it impacts not only the person affected, but also their families and friends.
