Active Games Cluster Heats for Moffat, Lockerbie and Langholm

The heats and qualifying events for the Active Games Final in Dumfries on the 7th September are well underway. It was the turn of the Moffat, Langholm and Lockerbie School clusters to take part on Thursday 23rd May.

The event at Moffat Academy was a qualifier for the Active Games final which is funded and sponsored by EventScotland, DNG Media and The David Stevenson Trust.

Active Games is part of the Games for Scotland programme delivered by EventScotland in the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. With one year to go, the countdown to Glasgow 2014 is underway and an extensive programme of sport through the Active Games is now taking place across the region to celebrate the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Children played out a morning of sport competing in badminton, Boccia, athletics, rugby and netball at Moffat Academy and Moffat Rugby Club.

Dumfries and Galloway Council Events Champion, Councillor Finlay Carson, said this multi-sport event underlines the Council’s commitment to providing a legacy from Glasgow 2014.

“All the qualifiers from across the region will be looking forward to an inspiring day in September,” Mr Carson said.
