Annan CRT were tasked yesterday evening (18/08/2015) to Castle Corner near Glencaple after a suspicious object, believed to be ordinance was discovered on the shore. Once the first informant was identified and the object located photographs were taken and sent to the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team for their opinion.
They decided that the object couldn’t be fully identified by the photos, so sent a team down this morning to deal with it. Annan CRT were on scene to assist and to create and maintain a safety cordon.
Once the object had been cleaned up, the Navy team identified the object as being safe, however it was decided it would be destroyed by way of a controlled explosion as a precaution.
Well done to all those involved and thank you to the first informant for doing the right thing and reporting the object. It just goes to show that these types of incidents do and can happen in our area.
