Busy Weekend for Police Drugs Unit

Police report that a number of substantial drug seizures have been made over the weekend Friday5/Sunday 7 October 2012 in the region.

 

• Approximately £300,000 worth of cannabis resin was seized from a vehicle on the A74(M) and as a result a male and a female have been arrested and will appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Tuesday 9 October 2012.

 

• After a search in Dalbeattie approximately £1300 worth of cannabis was recovered and a report is being prepared for the procurator Fiscal.

 

• One male and one female will appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Tuesday 9 October 2012 in relation to the recovery of heroin with a value of £350 in Stranraer.

 

• Two men will also appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Tuesday 9 October 2012 in connection with the recovery of £30,000 worth of herbal cannabis on the A74(M).

 

• A house search in Wigtown recovered drugs and as a result a man from the town will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

 

• Quantities of cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine were recovered after a number of house searches in Dumfries on Friday 5 October.  One Dumfries woman will appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Tuesday 9 October 2012 on drug related charges.

 

Detective Inspector Mark Carruthers of the force’s Drug Squad said “this has been particularly busy period which has brought about some substantial recoveries of drugs in the region over a fairly short period of time.  Intelligence is the key to taking illegal drugs and the dealers off the streets of the region and we rely on the communities throughout Dumfries and Galloway to stand up and tell us about who is dealing drugs, where they are dealing drugs and when.  It is only with the help of the community that we can make an impact on this terrible trade.  Anyone who wants to give any information can either phone the police on 0845 600 5701, or if they want  to do so anonymously, through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
