Council’s New Graduate Scheme Launches Today
Written by admin on June 25, 2012
A new employment programme that will give you an opportunity to get a head start in your career. This is what every graduate is looking for. Now, Dumfries and Galloway Council are offering recent graduates from the region that opportunity.
The Council’s Administration committed to preparing young people for employment as one of its priorities and in support of this a new ‘Graduate Experience Employment Programme’ is being launched today (Monday 25 June).
The Graduate Experience Employment Programme was one of the commitments made as part of the budget process in February. Since then, Officers have been working to develop the exciting new programme. 10 placements have been created across various Council Services and graduates will be given the chance to develop their knowledge, skills and experience in a working environment.
The programme will see each graduate presented with a range of learning and development opportunities as well as take on responsibility for a specific piece of project work, which will directly contribute towards the achievement of Council objectives.
Council Depute Leader, Brian Collins said “we made a commitment to young people to create employment opportunities. This new scheme delivers what we said. This graduate scheme targets people from our region or who have studied for their degree in one of our universities or colleges – our focus is on providing these opportunities for graduates in Dumfries and Galloway. The investment that our Administration has committed to is dedicated to our young people, providing them with valuable skills and increasing their employment opportunities. In doing so, we hope that companies in Dumfries and Galloway will create employment opportunities for these young people so that they will stay in our region.”
The Council is currently recruiting for these positions and further details can be found on the Council’s website www.dumgal.gov.uk or on www.MyJobScotland.gov.uk.
