Dumfries Care at Home Company Receive Top Marks in Scotland

Dumfriesshire-based care at home company Social Care Alba has received the highest inspection marks possible by the Care Inspectorate – Scotland’s official independent regulator of social care and social work services.
Social Care Alba, which currently operates in Dumfries & Galloway and Edinburgh, recently received top marks in all three available categories – Care & Support, Staffing and Management and Leadership – following an impromptu inspection in December last year. One of the few care providers in the whole of Scotland to have achieved such a rating from the inspection agency, the report into the company was published this month.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “Social Care Alba is an excellent service. They offer a very high level of care and support by a staff team who have wide cultural backgrounds and language skills… The staff team are very highly thought of with service users telling us “they go above and beyond the call of duty to provide an excellent service”
Social Care Alba MD Stephen Wilson, of Dumfries, said: “We’re absolutely delighted and proud of what we have achieved. It’s a real boost for our staff and recognition for all the effort and hardwork they’ve put in over the past few years since the company’s formation.“
The company employs a range of staff including social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and trained nurses. They provide support to people living in their own home. This includes a number of vulnerable individuals such as those who are elderly or suffer from complex needs related to a recent stroke or a form of dementia.
One of the company’s philosophies is to promote independence for individuals in their own homes by means of a person centred approach. Another is to provide better care for individuals than they could expect to receive either in hospital or a care home.
Since its official registration, Social Care Alba have also managed to achieve Investor in People accreditation and a Healthy Working Lives Bronze Award.
The Care Inspectorate’s remit is to ensure individuals in Scotland receive high quality care and that service users rights are protected. They regulate, inspect and advise on care improvements in care, social work and child protection throughout Scotland. This includes private providers, local authorities, charities and voluntary organisations. The Inspectorate is accountable to the Scottish Government.
