Dumfries Rotaract – First Meeting Sunday 21st April
Written by Kevin Rennie on April 18, 2013
The Rotary clubs of Dumfries and Dumfries Devorgilla would like to extend a warm invitation to all young people aged between 18 and 30 to become a part of the new Dumfries Rotaract Club, With the same goals of Rotary, Rotaract is for young people between 18 and 30, and aims to demonstrate Rotary in Action. The themes are community, fundraising, international and personal development but all at the same time as having fun! Their first informal meeting will be this Sunday (21st April) beginning at 7PM at the Globe Inn.
Dumfries and the surrounding communities see a number of events organised by the local Rotary clubs every year however, the younger generation may not believe Rotary is for them! As a result, the Rotary Clubs of Dumfries and Dumfries Devorgilla are in the process of bringing together a Rotaract club.
A steering group made up of members of both Rotary clubs in Dumfries, members of the Rotaract Club of Edinburgh and local residents who have expressed an interest in being involved have been discussing how the Rotary clubs could support the set up and establishment of the club. They would like to make a club that welcomes young people from across the local communities including students, newly arrived professionals, school leavers and anyone else who is interested in supporting the community.
The most recent meeting of the steering group concluded with setting a date of Sunday 21st April at 7pm for an informal kick-off gathering and information evening for anyone who would like to hear more information on Rotaract in Dumfries. The event will be taking place at The Globe Inn. They hope to hold more of these information events over the summer and into the autumn but please e-mail dumfries.rotaract@gmail.com if you would like any more information.
