Eight local school pupils in France bus crash

INVESTIGATIONS are going on into a coach crash in France in which a teacher and pupils from Dalbeattie High School have been injured.
The coach left Dalbeattie on Sunday night on its way to Normandy and the pupils arrived in France on Monday morning before starting the journey to their base which is believed to be the Chateau de Tertre.
Emergency services were rushed to the crash scene after the bus was involved in the accident with a car.
The front of the bus was smashed in the head-on crash and the pupils and adults accompanying them were escorted and helped off the bus.
It is believed that the eight pupils and a teacher were detained in hospital overnight but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The Foreign Office has been involved and officials are looking into the reports of the injuries and offering consular assistance to those on the trip. Foreign Office officials are also arranging to keep in touch with the school.
The party is thought to number about 50 and those who escaped injury are believed to have been transported to their destination.
Parents of the children were informed in the early evening of the accident which happened around 4pm in Normandy about an hour or so from their destination.
Further details will be released by the school later today.
The S2 pupils had been enjoying their journey according to the schools twitter account and pictures were posted during the morning and after leaving the ferry following the Channel crossing.
