Fatal crash on A701

One man has died and one is seriously injured as a result of a road traffic collision on the A701 near Beattock.
A Police Scotland said they could now confirm that a man has died at the scene of the two car crash on the Beattock bypass.
They said the victim of the accident, who has not been named, had been pronounced dead at the scene of the two car road traffic crash.
The collision took place on the A701 road near to Cragielands House, Beattock.
A second man has been taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with what are described as serious injuries.
Police, Scottish Fire and Rescue personnel and ambulance personnel have been in attendance at the accident and road has been completely closed.
The spokesman added: “The road at the scene will be closed for some considerable time to allow for a full crash investigation to take place. Diversions have been put in place.”
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and those heading south for Dumfries are advised to leave the A74M at J16 Lockerbie and those going north to take the reverse route.
