FLOOD AND GALES ALERT FOR NEXT TWO DAYS ACROSS SCOTLAND

A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway after heavy and prolonged rainfall throughout yesterday afternoon and evening.
A Yellow Be Award warning has been issued for gales or severe gales tonight and early Saturday with more heavy rain.
The rain hit southern Scotland around midday with heavy snow in the Scottish Borders with roads blocked and a number of accidents.
The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency says the heavy rain and melting snow on the hills is expected to cause river levels to rise, particularly in eastern parts of Dumfries and Galloway with minor flooding possible.
Southwesterly gales or severe gales are expected to affect much of Scotland and Northern Ireland during the second half of Friday.
The strongest winds will affect northwest Scotland at first then reach the Central Lowlands, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland late afternoon and evening.
The Met Office says: “Please be aware of difficult driving conditions with the risk of travel disruption on roads and to ferries. Winds may be strong enough to bring down branches or even uproot some trees due to saturated ground. A period of heavy rain will also affect much of Scotland, especially western areas.
“A depression is expected to deepen and move towards Iceland during Friday, with the associated frontal zone expected to affect the UK throughout Friday and Saturday.
“Southwesterly winds will gust 45-55 mph quite widely across Scotland and Northern Ireland, locally to more than 60 mph. In the Western Isles and far northwest mainland Scotland gusts will reach around 70-80 mph.
