Galloway Seascapes – Galloway Skies Paintings by Angela Lawrence

Angela Lawrence is an artist who has made her home in Galloway, which features in her paintings for this solo exhibition at the Tolbooth Art Centre, Kirkcudbright from 25 July to 6 August.
Angela likes to portray particular places with which people can feel a connection, although her locations are often transformed by memory. On view at the Tolbooth will be wonderful skies over Galloway landscapes highlighted by sunlight between shifting cloud; the softening effects of distance and the allure of far horizons. Her seascapes exude the freshness of the Solway coast and its unspoilt character and are often more peaceful than her paintings from the hills. In contrast, some of her recent series, ‘Sea Spirits’ display a freshness and concentrate on the fascinating movement of waves, close-up. Some of these will also be on show.
Angela, who is also a professional musician, has lived in Galloway since 2004. She is commissioned internationally and exhibits widely, as well as throughout the year at her gallery, Clience Studio, in Castle Douglas. Her work has been included in many prestigious venues, recently in Scotland at the Royal Glasgow Institute, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Paisley Art Institute, the Lillie Art Gallery, the Glasgow Art Show and at Gracefield Art Centre. Some of her work is currently at the Stirling Smith Museum and Art Gallery. Angela holds a Finnish Arts Council Award, and received a Creative Arts Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway Visual Arts Award in 2011; she was recently elected as an artist member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists.
Angela’s exhibition runs in the Tolbooth Art Centre until Sunday, 6 August and is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and 2 pm to 5pm on Sundays (open at 11am – 5pm on Sunday 6 August for the Kirkcudbright Arts and Craft Trail). Admission is free.
