The raid on the house took place sometime between 8.30am on Friday and 7.30pm on Saturday at the house in Ardwil Gardens in Lockerbie.
The house was broken into and a large quantity of jewellery stolen. Police say the jewellery consists of gents and ladies watches, rings, necklaces, bracelets brooches and earrings.
Constable Lisa Duff at Lockerbie said: “This is a despicable theft which has robbed a family of a large quantity of jewellery which is of great sentimental value.
“The actual value of the stolen property has not yet been fully ascertained but could run into thousands of pounds.”
She added: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the Ardwil Gardens area on Friday/Saturday at the weekend and who may have seen anything which they now think might have been suspicious. We can be contacted at Lockerbie on the 101 number.”
