Kirkcudbright crew rescued by Oban lifeboat

THE five-man crew of the he Kirkcudbright-based St Apollo have been rescuRNLIed off the West coast of Scotland.
They rescued by the volunteer crew of Oban RNLI Lifeboat Mora Edith MacDonald after their boat hit rocks on the Sound of Mull
The lifeboat was called out early this morning for the fourth time in 24 hours and went on to rescue the crew who had taken to their life raft.
The drama took place in the in the Sound of Mull when a call went out for help just before 4am after the boat was believed to have been caught in a severe squall.
The fishing boat ran on to rocks in the bay and began taking in water and the crew asked for immediate assistance from Stornaway Coastguard.
The Oban Lifeboat was immediately paged along with Royal Navy rescue helicopter 177 from HMS Gannet in Prestwick.
The lifeboat arrived on scene around 4.30am and found the crew on their life raft.
As the crew was pulled to safety and on to the lifeboat the St Apollo sank into deep water.
The crew were checked out but were uninjured and were landed at Oban around 6am this morning.
