Magnox Limited, Chapelcross Supports Live World Class Cycling
Written by Kevin Rennie on September 4, 2013
Magnox Limited, Chapelcross has been announced as the Regional Sponsors of the Tour of Britain in Scotland. Their sponsorship will enhance the delivery of this prestigious national cycling event and help promote Dumfries and Galloway across the Globe.
Magnox is committed to providing socio-economic support and enabling sustainability in its local communities. This work is supported by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, and provides socio-economic funding through the contract with Magnox, and EnergySolutions. The Magnox sponsorship is fitting, as Stage One of the Tour passes close to the Chapelcross Site travelling through Gretna, Eastriggs and Annan.
The Tour of Britain celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2013, and continues its love affair with South West Scotland, which it has visited eight times in a nine year period previous to this year.
Drumlanrig Castle will be transformed in the two days before the Tour, to prepare for the expected influx of eight thousand spectators. One kilometre of barriers will be laid out, as well as a huge amount of event apparatus and television Outside Broadcast units being brought on-site.
Additional attractions on Sunday 15 September for Tour spectators include a farmers’ market, the 7stanes Display Team, street entertainers and a Giant Screen, which will provide live coverage of the race. Spectators are urged to reach Drumlanrig well before the gates close at 1400 hours, to enjoy the atmosphere and ensure there is no congestion.
Councillor Finlay Carson, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Events Champion said, “I am delighted that Magnox Limited, Chapelcross, is joining the well-established and effective partnership that is behind the Tour of Britain. To retain major events such as the Tour, the Council needs to work closely with far sighted businesses and the Magnox Limited, Chapelcross Regional Sponsorship is a superb example of this public private sector approach.”
John Grierson, Site Director for Magnox Limited, Chapelcross said, “We are proud to be regional sponsors and welcome the Tour of Britain to South West Scotland. We hope it will bring many visitors to our local area and communities“
