Countryside ranger, catering manager, graphic designer, nursery nurse and leisure attendant.
These are just some of the new Modern Apprenticeships that Dumfries and Galloway Council are offering in their new Modern Apprentices Programme. The right support can make all the difference when it comes to learning new skills. This is why the Council’s Modern Apprenticeship scheme – Make Your Mark – is being launched today.
The first round of the Modern Apprenticeship programme will offer 80 different placements in a range of different roles across the Council. The programme will continue to recruit Modern Apprentices over the next three years.
Young people aged between 16-19 yrs old will have the opportunity to apply for one of our exciting apprenticeships, and ‘Make their Mark’. The placements are available for a period of up to three years.
There are many benefits to one of our apprenticeships – young people will be able to earn money whilst they learn, receive training that will lead to a national qualification and work in friendly and different working environments.
Council Depute Leader, Brian Collins, visited some of our current Modern Apprentices recently. After speaking to the young people, he said “we made a commitment to the young people of this region. One of our Council’s priorities was to prepare young people for employment. The creation of these Modern Apprenticeships will allow young people across our region to work with our Council and gain valuable skills and industry recognised qualifications. I recently launched the Council’s graduate employment programme. The launch of this Modern Apprenticeship scheme further demonstrates our commitment to helping the young people of our region.”
The Council is currently recruiting Modern Apprentices. Further details can be found on the Council’s website www.dumgal.gov.uk
