Man charged with culpable homicide

A 24-year-old man has made a brief appearance at Dumfries Sheriff Court on a charge of culpable homicide.

It follows the death of a 44-year-old man after an incident in the town just over ten days ago.

Daniel Skelton, from Bellshill, died at the Western Infirmary in Edinburgh on Friday after being taken there with a head injury after the incident.

At the Dumfries court Daniel McGuire, from Dumfries, appeared in private before Sheriff George Jamieson on a petition containing charges of assault and culpable homicide.

No plea or declaration was made and he was fully committed and remanded in custody.
