McAlpine renews calls to save Shabellie

outh of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine made a speech in Parliament last night (Wednesday) urging National Museums Scotland (NMS) to rethink their proposal to close the National Museum of Costume, Shambellie House.
Speaking in the debate, Ms McAlpine said:
“National Museums Scotland claim that they operate on the basis of four main values; being creative by using innovation and thriving on good ideas, being generous, being collaborative as well as forward thinking. I say to them, ‘prove it.’”
She pressed NMS to accept the offer to work with Dumfries & Galloway Council, the Chamber of Commerce, Destination Dumfries & Galloway and the Association of Accommodation Providers to secure a sustainable future for the National Museum of Costume.
Commenting after the debate Ms McAlpine stated:
“I am pleased we have cross-party support on this important issue from our local MSPs.
“Shambellie House could be the hub for visiting exhibitions in the region; it could be used as a venue for events like other museums across the country. There is great potential here that seems to have been overlooked.
“National Museums Scotland is meeting on Friday to discuss our suggestions. I sincerely hope that the NMS make the correct decision for Shambellie and Dumfries & Galloway.”
