Murder investigation now underway

A MAN who was badly injured in an incident in Dumfries early last Saturday has died in hospital and a murder investigation is now underway.

The 44-year-old man was taken to Dumfries Infirmary last Saturday before being rushed to the Westter General Hospital in Edinburgh for specialist treatement.

Today Police Scotland reported that Danie Skelton, of Blackmoss Drive in Bellshill, Glasgow, died in the early hours of this morning.

Police said that the 44 year old man who was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Saturday August 1 in Queensberry Street in Dumfries, following a disturbance in the town.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Burnie of Police Scotland in Dumfries said: “Sadly the victim died at the Western Infirmary in Edinburgh in the early hours of today and as such this is now a murder enquiry.

“The Procurator Fiscal has been notified and a post mortem examination is being arranged.”

The area was cordoned off last weekend as forensic teams searched the area for clues and later police said a 24-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Earlier this week a a Police Scotland spokesman said: “A 24 year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It is expected that the man will appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court in conncection with the incident.
