Plans for Lochmaben Town Hall discussed

Lochmaben Community Council and Dumfries and Galloway Council officers discussed potential new plans for Lochmaben Town Hall at a meeting last week (4 December).

 

If agreed next year, the plans would involve improvements to the Town Hall including improved access and heating, a lift, new public toilets and an integrated library/ customer service centre in the historic upstairs hall.

 

There will be consultation with Lochmaben Community Council, Lochmaben Community Initiative, existing users of the Town Hall and the wider community in the town.

 

Councillor Peter Diggle said, “These draft plans are exciting in potentially securing the future of Lochmaben’s flagship building. Consultation will take place early next year and will give local people the opportunity to comment on and influence the shape of any future development.”

 

The library/ customer service centre facility in the upstairs hall will be flexible enough to allow for the space to continue to be used by local groups. There will be detailed discussions with current user groups who will be approached in the near future.
