Police investigate two suspicious fires in Region

Police Scotland is investigating two suspicious fires in Dumfries and Galloway.
In the first, damage was caused to a letter box and door at a flat in Dee Road in Kirkcudbright sometime around 1510 hours on Tuesday 29 September 20015. The fire was extinguished by a neighbour and the Fire and Rescue Service notified and attended. On examination it appears that the door to the flat was deliberately set on fire. Constable Gillian Dingwall of Police Scotland at Kirkcudbright said “the consequences of such a reckless act don’t bear thinking about in this case. We want to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around the Dee Road area, and in particular in the vicinity of the flats around 1500 hours yesterday. In another incident a fire was reported at 0020 hours on Wednesday 30 September 2015 at a car in Wallamhill Road in Locharbriggs, Dumfries. A red coloured Vauxhall Corsa car was found on fire and was seriously damaged as a result. The fire was extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service and after a joint investigation it appears that this was a deliberate act. Constable Paul Murphy at Dumfries said “Extensive enquiries are being made into this reckless act and we are keen to trace a man who was seen in the vicinity the time of the fire. He is described as being white, in his early to mid 30s, stocky build, short dark hair and was wearing a black hooded tracksuit top with a black t-shirt underneath, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers. This man was walking three dogs, an alsatian, a black labrador and a small white dog. Anyone with any information which might help should call us at Dumfries on 101.”
