POLICE are looking for the woman driver of a car which smashed into the new metal barriers at the former Co-operative Superstore at Butts Street in Annan.
It happened this morning (FRI) at 10am at the entrance to the complex. The new barrier gates had only been erected four days earlier by supermarket company Aldi after the car park was used by a party of travellers.
The travellers left with their caravans and vehicles on Sunday but the site was left strewn with rubbish and bags causing concern among local councillors and members the public.
Aldi sent in workers to erect the barriers to secure the site and said that they intend starting work on Monday to refurbish the store which will be opened in March next year.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A small black car driver by an older lady was seen to collide with the gates causing the damage.
“The woman then drove away without stopping. This car will have sustained front end damage and we would like to speak to the driver as soon as possible to check she is okay.
“If you know who this is or have any other information please get in touch on 101.”
